AN ELDRITCH AFTERLIFE

The Afterdeath is a webcomic series about death and the expressions of the soul. The characters depicted are of different time periods, cultures, and circumstances.

Each one that exists within the Afterdeath suffers from attachment to the realm of the living, therefore they remain "alive" in a transitory state.

Created by Mrs.HumanCar, a Malaysian artist and writer. Her various interests lie in mythology, folklore, the esoteric and the occult, and religions.

The Afterdeath is an attempt to bind together the various beliefs of the world under a singular, eldritch-horror-filled universe.

MYTHOS & SPIRITS

The Legend of Yama in Tibetan mythos is that a monk was beheaded on the last day of his 50-year-long meditation, where he was told he would acheive Enlightenment. He was killed because he saw two thieves behead a bull in his meditation cave.

Angered by the injustice, the monk's spirit turned into Yama - the Lord of Death. He replaced his own head with the bull's.

SHAPESHIFTER

The Swan-Headed, Joutsen, is inspired by the mythos of Finland and Sweden of swan maidens. There are many stories of young women turning into swans either as a curse or as protection from evil-doers.

The Swan-Headed dones a dark dress reminiscent of the 1790s, the era she existed in as a living being before descending into the Afterdeath.
